It sounds like your mother will live on as you share your stories of her with your little guy. I know it’s how my grandfather (he passed away when I was four) has lived on for all of us.

Big hug.

oh shiny, i wish i could give you a huge hug, even with the tears and snot streaming down my face. i’m grateful that avi has a photo of himself with your momma. and i so hate that he will grow up without her. almost as much as i hate that you can’t hug her today.

i can’t help but find it so amazing that today of all days avi picked to read, really read, a book. what a wonderful tribute to your mom.

while i am sure you will disagree or brush it off, i want to be sure you know that i find you very brave for posting this video. most men have stupid ideas about crying, but it takes a really strong person to do it on video for the entire internet. i’m so proud of you. and i bet your mom would be also.

many hugs to you, shiny.

That must have been really hard, and I’m so sorry for your loss. I bet your mother would have been so proud of your son today, and of you as well.

You already know that I just feel for you so much today. I teared up when watching your video both times and just wish that I could come give you a big hug.

I’m proud of you for being able to express your real emotions like this. You are amazing.

You’re a very brave man and I wish I could just reach through the monitor and hug you. My mom died suddenly too at age 68. It’s been twenty years (I lost her relatively young in my life) but I remember that day well. Avi is a very lucky young man to have known your mother. Motley never knew her grandmother, my mother. Nor her grandfather, my dad, either. I don’t even have photos any longer because they were either stolen from me by other members of the family or lost when I couldn’t afford to pay a storage bill. Still, I’ve tried to instill in her a sense of who they were so she can feel connected to them. Things like your video will help Avi to remember your mom when his 2 yr old memories are faded. BTW… highway is a really big word for him to read. He’s an amazing child… quite like his father I think.

I don’t have the words to express how incredibly brave and honest it was of you to make that wonderful tribute to your Mum.
I think your Mum must have been very proud of you and your family.
Sending a big hug :o)

I’m sorry for your loss and your sadness.

It’s good that you have happy memories, warm feelings, and love for your mother.

Not everyone feels the same way so it’s nice to see someone honor their mother with true, heartfelt feelings.

I apologize that a lot of my responses are going to sound quite similar. But all of you had very comforting, wonderful things to say. And you’re all wonderful for empathizing and being my support for the past few days. And for that I thank you.

Nat: Thanks. Stories are important. And we hope to continue to share them.

Becky: Many hugs back. Your support has been more valuable to me than you’ll probably ever realize.

Amanda: Thank you. I’d like to think she would be.

Hilly: … and you’re amazing for having helped me through this as well. Thank you.

Winter: Thanks for the very kind words. And yes — I’m thankful that we have a lot of memories in pictures and videos.

Penelope: Thank you. She was quite something else.

Mattie: Don’t get me wrong — we had our battles at times. I was an unruly teenager. 🙂 But yes — overall I think we were fortunate to have such a wonderful, nurturing relationship. And I hope I continue the same with our son.

Turnbaby: Thank you. You and I have discussed memories and losing those who we love — and you’ve given me sound advice. And just listened when I needed it. Thanks for being so wonderful.

katherine: Yes. Blessed. I don’t usually use that word, but I suppose I am. At least — I feel that way.

As for the Banana Slugs shirt — Yup! Got it when I visited UCSC in 1999. I don’t quite wear it like Travolta, though… And April must have been a beautiful time with the cherry blossoms peaking…
