• Thanks to all of you for your comments and support yesterday. I received many comments on the blog as well as emails and tweets from you all, and I’ll do my best to answer them in the next few days. I just want you all to know that, as someone who is relatively new to this specific online community, it speaks volumes to have friends who care enough to provide words and expressions of comfort. (And a special thank you to Sandi and Dessie who came here from my old Mindsay community to express their thoughts.)
One more person I want to mention specifically: that day two years ago and the aftermath were very difficult for me. But I literally don’t know how I could have survived it without socKs there by my side. From the moment that I called her at work as soon as I found out — and she drove home immediately to pick me up and take me to my parents’ home — throughout the funeral and the shiva period she was there to help not only me but the rest of the family. And this wasn’t an easy task because she was grieving as well. She and my Mom had a wonderful relationship right from the start, and I’m fortunate that she still maintains an amazing relationship with my Dad and the rest of the family. So — thank you, socKs — for being there then and now. It means the world to me.
• What’s been going on in my life today? Well — after I got home from synagogue I checked the mail and found a letter from our homeowners’ association. They do periodic checks on the different properties to make sure everything’s being followed to the T. I had done some yard work a while back (cutting back branches and brush) in our bricked in back-patio and still had some branches and leaves piled on the ground. So we got a “first notice” from them for “non-compliance of assocation rules” — not bad for our first notice of the kind after living there for more than seven years, I guess. But I spent the entire afternoon getting down and dirty cleaning, trimming back and raking our jungle of a yard. It looks good and I feel great about it. I’m emailing the Association with a venegance and asking them to re-evaluate ASAP. We can’t be as bad as our neighbors who regularly park in the fire lane and dispose of used cooking oil improperly…
• List on the 3s is coming up yet again tomorrow! I’m entertaining new ideas for lists — so if you have any please let me know. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions regarding the Cover Songs list I just did; I’ll put those suggestions in that post and will answer those comments as well.
• … and in the next 24 hours I’ll post all the answers to my “Lyrical Gangsta” quiz! Kudos to Hilly of Snackie’s World for identifying the most of these correctly. (Honorable mention to Dave2 of Blogography for coming in a close second.)
• I really haven’t been great about blogging recently, and I need to get back into shape of blogging (at least) once a day. I have some wonderful topics coming up! Look for my views on customer service stemmed by my own experiences with Comcast on Twitter and a brief discussion with Aleash from Squillace Scribbles. Soon you’ll see me interviewing the lovely Suze from Still Baking. And as soon as I get off my butt and answer my own set of questions, Marinka of Motherhood in NYC will be posting her interview with yours truly!
Oh — and guess what? I’ve got some exciting updates from the world of Operation: Enduring Tofu! Was I able to finally connect with Robin Sparkles, the girl who, nineteen years ago, was the impetus of me becoming a vegetarian because I had a secret crush on her? Did I come clean to her? What was her reaction to it all? Stay tuned to find out…
• I just got the DVD box-set of Spaced: The Complete Series yesterday and just finished Season 1. Amazing show. For those of you not in the know, Spaced was a British series from about 8 years ago starring, among others, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). It’s a quirky show which references and parodies pretty much every television show and movie in a brilliant way. I came into it not knowing a thing about the show, and I’m already hooked on it. This version has guest commentaries by the likes of Kevin Smith, Diablo Cody and Quentin Tarantino. I highly recommend it.
• Finally — we’re getting closer to switching our wireless carrier to Verizon Wireless (for reasons I won’t get into here). Anyone have any phone suggestions? I’m looking for something with a camera and a decent means to text and send pictures to, well, Flickr (and then Twitter). Web surfing would be kind of cool but not a necesity. Let me know if anyone has any ideas…
That’s all I’ve got for now — have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

I bought Spaced, too, and can’t wait to sit down and watch it.
Too bad you’re going to Verizon. An iPhone would have suited you nicely.
I’ve had T-Mobile for 5 years now. I started out with Verizon and Rott with AT&T. Both were no end of trouble. I had Sprint for 2 years after that. They were worse. T-Mobile has been good to me. I pay $70 for 3 phones plus $20 for unlimited texting (Motley pays that plus $25 toward her and Tyler’s phones) and I pay $20 for full internet on the new Dash I got. Since the iPhone is on AT&T I won’t be getting one. My new Dash and a refurb Blackberry for Motley are doing quite well for us though. The Dash is Windows Mobile and with a microSD card holds about 50 MP3s. So far, I’m loving the Dash. It’s too bad it’s a strictly T-Mobile phone or I’d offer it up as a possible choice for you.

Yeah, I have a suggestion – go with A T & T and get an iPhone. 🙂 Seriously, I just plunked down $200 to get the 3g model (after waiting in line AGAIN) and it is so worth it. Don’t sell your soul to the evil empire*!!
*I realize AT & T is hardly a bastion of good & light. But it will be a cold day in hell before I ever sign up for Verizon anything.
I’ve no idea about Verizon phones but I can look and see if anything compares to what I have now with AT&T! But more importantly…
I WON! I WON! WOO HOO, I WON! Okay, ahem…composure. I don’t want to be a poor sport. Congrats Davey-Joe on being the big wiener too! Thanks for the opportunity to play, Shiny…it was fun indeed.
I had trouble with Verizon, too, when I tried them a few years ago. The network coverage wasn’t so great. Course, they may have vastly improved things since, but now that I’m in a little town, I’m happy to report that AT&T has never given me a lick of problems.

Avitable: Just finished watching the first four episodes with the new commentary (after watching season 1 on its own). So far — Kevin Smith for the first three and Diablo Cody for the next one. It’s just a party with Kevin, Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Jessica (Stevenson) Hynes in a room together. You’ll see what I mean…
Winter: You know? I’ve heard nothing but good things about T-Mobile. However, according to their maps, our home is in a very weak area. The DC area is spotty with them. But I’m glad you all are working well with them. It’s nice to know that there’s competition out there outside of the two big companies!
Sprint/Narftel: We were doing wonderfully with Nextel for a few years now. But over the past year the coverage just completely deteriorated — and the customer service even moreso. But if it works for you, more power to you. My Dad’s been very happy with Sprint.
Kate: I had a feeling you’d say that. And I’m glad you’re enjoying the 3G version. And thanks for realizing I exist yet again. 😉
Hilly: Who’s the big winner? Who is? Who is? Glad you had fun…
Everyone: The iPhone really is a nice option that I haven’t totally ruled out. It’s just a bit expensive (but yes — seemingly worth it) and we’ll have to determine if it’s worth the extra cost for two phones and a new voice and data plan for two people. Where I am, Verizon would be noticeably less expensive, and the coverage around here is excellent. But I appreciate the feedback and haven’t ruled anything out yet.
I’ve been with Verizon a couple years, been very happy with them. My enV is great fun- and I believe the new enVies are not quite so huge. Candy bar style, flips open for full qwerty and a great little screen. I have several eps of Doctor Who stored on there, nice to watch whilst waiting in long lines. The 2 megapixel camera takes surprisingly good shots.
Also, it exactly matches my current (green) purse. I’m sure that would be terribly important for you.
My biggest gripe is that the ringer isn’t nearly loud enough.
